Parents of my mother Anna Bacigálová (Kramárová):
- Imrich Kramár and Barbora Kramárová (Horváthová) owned farmland
My parents :
- Anna Bacigálová (Kramárová) and Štefan Bacigál began running a farm together after their wedding. They were primarily focused on plant production. They also bred cattle, pigs and horses.
After the end of the 2nd world war and onset of communism, they were threatened to be banished from their village and farm, if they did not sign entry into a collective farm. Finally, they decided to do so and my father ( Štefan Bacigál ) became a head of it for one year. After 4 years in the collective farm they decided again to run their farm separately. They had to pay shares (payments) to the state.
They handed over eggs, cereals, etc. from all they grew and bred. The shares kept increasing progressively till they were not acceptable anymore. Under these circumstances they entered the collective farm again. My father worked with his own horses and he also worked as a warehouse assistant. At the same time my parents owned their vineyard – 18-20 acres and 2 orchards where they grew apple trees, pear trees and cherry trees. They used to sell their fruit at the markets in Bratislava.
After mandatory retirement my father continued working as a watchman.
Ing. Jozef Bacigál senior
He started working as a mechaniser after his graduation at Agricultural University in Nitra in 1973.
He began as a head mechaniser in Hrnciarovce. In Cifer (cooperative farm , school property Voderady ) he worked as a mechaniser and agronomist.
Then he worked at JRD Blatné (at that time 4000 ha) as a mechaniser too. His last work place was at JRD Čataj.
In 1992 he started working as a self-employed farmer , but at the same time he worked for a cooperative farm as well until 1995. Gradually he increased the amount of rented land 52ha → 120 ha. And then he left his work for the cooperative farm. Currently we have more than 422 ha of rented land.
We specialize in plant production. We grow oilseed rape, wheat, barley, sunflower and maize (corn). In the past we even grew peas and mustard. But these crops were not profitable for us.
My son Jozef Bacigál junior MBA has officially worked with me since 2009. He decided to carry on in our family tradition. It is the 3rd generation of farmers.
